Pedro Caldeira Cabral was born in Lisbon in 1950. He studied music theory, counterpoint and harmony at the National Music Conservatory of Lisbon. He was the founder and director of the early music groups “La Batalla” and “Concerto Atlântico”, which specialized in the performance of Medieval and Renaissance music on period instruments. As a composer he developed a very individual style founded on the solo guitar tradition, incorporating original techniques and elements gathered from his study of the traditional instruments. As a performer he has expanded the solo repertoire of the Portuguese guitar with transcriptions of works by J. S. Bach, S. L. Weiss, Scarlatti, Sor, Seixas and others. He has toured extensively as a Portuguese guitar soloist, participating in international music festivals in Europe, Asia and the U.S. He was responsible for the artistic direction of the International Portuguese Guitar Festival at World Expo 98, held in Lisbon. His book, “The Portuguese Guitar” (Ediclube, Lisbon 1999), is the main reference on the national instrument’s origins and historical evolution and he is also the author of a vast discography. He as appeared in television programs in Portugal and throughout the world.

Pedro Caldeira Cabral nació en Lisboa en 1950. Estudió teoría de la música, contrapunto y armonía en el Conservatorio Nacional de Lisboa. Fundó y dirigió los grupos de música antigua “La Batalla” y “Concerto Atlântico”, especializados en la interpretación de musica medieval y renacentista con instrumentos de época. Como compositor ha desarrollado un estilo muy personal basado en la tradición de la guitarra solista y la incorporación de técnicas originales y elementos recogidos en su estudio de los intrumentos tradicionales. Como intérprete ha expandido el repertorio solista de la guitarra portuguesa con transcripciones de obras de J.S. Bach, S. L. Weiss, Scarlatti, Sor, Seixas entre otros. Ha realizado extensivas giras como solista de guitarra portuguesa, participando en festivales internacionales de música en Europa, Asia y los Estados Unidos de América. Fue director artístico del Festival Internacional de Guitarra Portuguesa en la Expo Mundial de 1998 en Lisboa. Su libro "La Guitarra Portuguesa" (Ediclube, Lisboa 1999) es la principal referencia sobre el origen de este instrumento nacional y su evolución histórica. Caldeira Cabral es también autor de una vasta discografía y ha aparecido en programas de televisión en Portugal y el mundo.
