Conference Villa Lobos’ Contemporaries Candice Mowbray discusses people, events, and musical trends contemporary to the life and work of Heitor Villa Lobos. Topics to be introduced include the birth of modernism, Villa Lobos’ friendships and travels, and the contributions of Villa Lobos' colleagues to guitar repertoire in the early twentieth century. Through the study of the artistic world surrounding Villa Lobos, his music and legacy are further celebrated.

Active as both a solo performer and chamber musician, guitarist Candice Mowbray is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree and earned a Master of Music degree in classical guitar performance from Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia. She studies with Dr. Glenn Caluda and Berta Rojas, and has performed in masterclasses with Roland Dyens, Ricardo Cobo, Angel Romero, and Sharon Isbin. Mowbray has served as an instructor for Shenandoah Conservatory, Mount Saint Mary’s University, Shepherd University, Hagerstown Community College, and Frederick Community College, teaching courses in guitar, music fundamentals, music history, and coaching ensembles. She is author of "Guitar Notes", a self-published method book for group guitar instruction and "A Study Guide for Music Appreciation" published by Pearson Customs. She presents seminars on a variety of subjects including guitar pedagogy, music theory, classical guitar techniques, and guitar history and organizes the annual Hagerstown Community College Guitar Mini-Fest. She was named one of the "Top 5 People to Watch" by Hagerstown Magazine for her dedication, initiative, talent, and entrepreneurial spirit. Her first CD, “Solo Guitar” is on the Falling Mountain Music record label.

Candice Mowbray desarrolla su carrera tanto como solista o en agrupaciones de cámara.
